Résumé

HER MOTHER'S SHADOW is the sequel to KISS RIVER and the last of my books to be set in North Carolina's Outer Banks (at least for a while!).

When Lacey O'Neill was a teenager, an emotionally overwrought husband stepped into a battered women's shelter and, in front of Lacey, shot her mother, a volunteer there. That deranged man killed one woman, but he destroyed two families -- Lacey's and his own.

Now Lacey is a stained glass artist in her late twenties, living in the old Kiss River light keeper's house while it is being restored as a museum -- and her mother's killer is up for parole. While her family deals with this crisis, Lacey learns that her best friend was killed in a car accident, leaving instructions for Lacey to raise her 11-year-old daughter.

As the secrets behind her mother's death unravel, so does the shattering truth about the well-respected, good-hearted Annie O'Neill. Nothing is what it seemed, and, attracted to "bad boys," Lacey must also sort out her feelings for her mother and for the two men vying for her heart -- attorney Rick Tenley and artist Bobby Asher. Through it all, Lacey learns that with the truth comes forgiveness, healing and the courage to finally open her heart.

It was hard for me to let go of Lacey and the other characters in the O'Neill family when I finished this book. I hope you come to care about them as much as I do.
